Crew FAQs

Becoming a crewmember with Reliance Yacht Management and assisting in the delivery of yachts wil give you the opportunity to sail many thousands of miles and a variety of yachts Worlwide. This year so far our crews have joined yachts in France, Turkey, Greece, USA, Ireland, Sweden, Seychelles, Australia, St Martin and Croatia. We will be adding to that list in near future to include Finland, Norway, Reunion Island and China.

"Being a a yacht delivery crew enabled me to sail around the world and visit some of the most beautiful places on earth. It gave me an understanding and appreciation of the world we live in. It gave me opportunities that I would not of had any other way. I would encourage every person to experience at least one ocean passage in their lifetime" Nick Irving, Director and Founder of Reliance Yacht Management.

Here are some of the frequently asked questions from crew looking to join a delivery.

Why Register?

Crew are asked to register with Reliance before joining a delivery. It is important they have the latest up to date information about your experience, contact details and availabilty to enable them to manage the voyage effectively and for crew to maximise their sailing opportunities. There is a fee for this of £38 which covers our administration costs and allows you to access an increasing number of benefits including free registration to leading sailing job website www.iworkonwater.com.

Also it is important to note that not all our sailing opportunities are published on this blog. Registered crew will have privileged notice of these additional vacancies.

What About Insurance?

This is an important question. All the yachts we deliver are insured by their owner. The captain will have his own travel and professional liability cover. Crew are asked to get suitable health and travel insurance. If you have any questions about this call the office to discuss.

What About My Costs?

All on board expenses i.e. food and drink will be provided. You are not expected to contribute to these costs. Meals ashore will be your responsibility. Wherever possible Reliance will cover the cost of travel. However on occassions there will be limit to the budget or a payment paid on completion towards your travel expenses. In any event it will be explained clearly from the start before joining a yacht.

Who Chooses the Crew?

The safety of the yacht is the responsibility of the Captain and that includes the selection and management of the crew. You will need to contact the Captain directly to express your interest in joining a delivery. This will give you and the Captain the opportunity to ask any questions and to understand the details of the trip.

What Equipment Do I Need

This is a question that you need to duscuss further with the Captain directly. However you will be expected to have your own foul weather gear, harness, sleeping bag, life jacket and torch. Do not take too much, there is limited space on even the biggest yachts.

I Have More Questions

It is important that you understand the nature of the trip, what will be expected of you and what you can expect from others. Do not hesitate to contact Reliance Yacht Management or the Captain with your questions no matter how trivial you may think they are.
